I am a General Surgery Resident and Surgical Education Research Fellow at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. I am in my fourth year of training and currently completing my three year fellowship pertaining to education and acquisition of procedural skills and before returning to finish my clinical years. I have a Bachelor's of Science in both biochemistry and psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Medical Degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
I always wanted to be surgeon. However, my passion for education began during my undergraduate career as a teaching assistant and has continued to grow as I gained experience working with students in different stages of training. I love working with students learning different skills and seeing their "aha!" moments when they finally master a difficult task. I also enjoy mentoring students on a variety of topics such as how to succeed during clinical rotations, applying for residency programs and discussing the daily life of a surgical resident. On a personal note, I am an Omaha, Nebraska native (Go Huskers!). When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband and I have a three year old German Shepherd and two cats. Not surprisingly, my hobbies include tasks that involve technical skills and working with my hands. I love to paint and crochet. We also have a vegetable garden where we grow tomatoes and hot peppers we use to make hot sauce and seasonings! If you ever want to talk about spice I am always excited to give or get new recommendations. |
