develop educational programs and materials with appropriate scope, sequence, and the focus for learners through the application of evidence-based strategies and methodologies

For this goal, I chose two examples of items I have developed to be used by different populations of learners I interact with. The first artifact is a curriculum outline paper from Foundations of Health Professions Education. This paper outlines a plan for a 16 week residency prep course using evidence-based strategies as well as a brief discussion of weekly activities that are included in this curriculum. While I am not yet in a position to implement this course in real life, it is loosely based on a 4-week Boot Camp that I do help plan and teach every year, and hopefully some of these activities can slowly be worked into course programming for this course. The document outlines clear objectives aligned with course activities that spark self-reflection, discussion with peers, and simulations. The hybrid build of the course supports the autonomous adult learner by allowing flexibility in when the student completes the activities, but still provides scaffolding the facilitator may use to guide the learners through the course content. My second artifact is a short infographic that can be incorporated into the surgery clerkship simulation lab on internal jugular central lines. The infographic is aesthetically pleasing and is focused on pearls and pitfalls that I have seen student's struggle with when practicing this skill over the past 2 years. Instead of providing a long list of each little step along the way, this infographic is limited to a total of 8 tips to reduce cognitive overload not only when looking at the graphic, but also when practicing the skill. I chose IJ central lines because this is the skill with the most unique steps that they practice in this lab, but also because a lot of lines and tubes that we place in patients follow the same basic principle of Seldinger technique. Hopefully they can carry these basic skills over to apply to the rest of their simulations during this lab.
