Research

Overview

As a part of my research fellowship I am currently working on projects in surgeon ergonomics both in the operating room and during simulation training. I am also working on developing education projects regarding best practices for effective instruction for students learning procedural skills. I have completed a thesis, multiple abstracts, podium presentations, and published a case series related to topics varying from obesity and impulsivity to novel management of thyrotoxicosis. I have also recently participated in and submitted for publication a manuscript related to suturing education for medical students, an update for best practice guidelines on obesity in adults, and multiple chapters in a pediatric surgery textbook.

research interests

  • Surgical ergonomics
  • Acquisition of procedural skills
  • Simulation training
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Medical student curriculum improvement

Current/Upcoming Projects

  • Residency Boot Camp for Incoming Interns
  • Resident and Faculty Perceptions of Curricular Changes
  • Video Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery, 2nd Edition
  • High Quality Feedback for Medical Students During Suturing and Knot Tying
  • Resident Ergonomics during Laparoscopic Skills Acquisition
